This year 3 capri's made the trip down to Castle Combe in Wiltshire for Celebrate 40 years of the ford Capri at one of the biggest gatherings held.
We all had a great time and decided a annual trip to a big show should be organised. The 2 hot favourites for 2010 are Ford Fair held at Silverstone (First weekend August) or Classic Ford held at Santa Pod (last weekend in May)
Distance and costs are pretty much the same for either show, and if your a keen countdown viewer you'll already know the rest, if not have a read as our very own Carol Vorderman has done the sums: ;D
Worked out some figures assuming average Capri fuel consumption is 28mpg (6.2 mpl) @ £4.55 per gallon/£1.00 per litre & Travel Inn @ 2009 prices
Ford Fair 2010 - Cost £300 approx
Admission - 2009 is £14 in advance so say £16 in 2010
Lodging - Banbury Travel Inn (small town) based on two nights (Sat & Sun) £115
Silverstone Travel Inn (middle of nowhere) Based on two nights (Sat & Sun) £126
Mileage - Aberdeen to Banbury - 960 plus 30 miles to Circuit round trip = 990 miles
Aberdeen to Silverstone - 982 plus 3 miles to Circuit round trip = 985 miles
Fuel Cost - Banbury (990/28 = 35.36 gallons x 4.55 = £160.88)
Silverstone (985/28 = 35.18 gallons x 4.55 = £160.07)
TOTAL COST = (B) 16+115+160.88=£291.88 or (S) 16+126+160.07= £302.07
Classic Ford 2010 - Cost £300 approx.
Admission - 2009 was £14 in advance so say £16 in 2010
Lodging - Wellingborough Travel Inn (large town) based on two nights (Sat & Sun) £120
Kettering Travel Inn (large town) Based on two nights (Sat & Sun) £120
Mileage - Aberdeen to Wellingborough - 982 plus 14 miles to Santa Pod round trip = 996 miles
Aberdeen to Kettering - 962 plus 32 miles to Santa Pod round trip = 994 miles
Fuel Cost - Wellingborough (996/28 = 35.57 gallons x 4.55 = £161.84)
Kettering (994/28 = 35.50 gallons x 4.55 = £161.53)
TOTAL COST = (W) 16+120+161.84=£297.84 or (K) 16+120+161.53 = £297.53
We propose an optional scheme to pay in each month towards the costs of the show. If you then backout you'd get the money back, its not a deposit, just a way to save. You could save as little or as much each month but bare in mind to cover all fuel/accomidation costs £50 would be required each month for classic ford or £38 for Ford Fair, starting from December meeting.
I'd quite like all votes to be cast by the December meeting so we can confirm for sure where we're going and getting accomidation booking into the new year.
